Net sales [after adjusting for returns]?  i.e Catalogue X drove $15K in sales of product Y , resulting in Z units shipped - is the $15K in sales the deciding factor in paying for ad space?  Profitability appears to be irrelevant , as some other competitor will pay for the space and therefore take the volume away.
