Being that we’re a planning company, his 2nd point caught my eye: writing out the plan for your business to get a better feel of what you were trying to create.
I have to agree. Although, writing it out with pen and paper is going to be a preference thing, I can’t write long hand fast enough to keep up with the ideas in my head – which makes typing them out a much better medium for me. But he makes a good point and it’s a point we at PAS try and relay to our customers. Write your business plan. Do it yourself, even if it’s rough and lean on pretty words. No one is going to know your business better than you do. And if you don’t, this is going to give you an opportunity to get up close and personal with it.
His 7th point is also a very worthwhile thing to keep in mind: Be Prepared to Fail. As hard as that is to think of, it’s something that needs to be planned for.
In the event that your business doesn’t make it big, and you end up pulling out of it, look back on what you’ve learned and consider what you plan to do next time. Chances are that you intend to start another business in your lifetime; when you do, you’ll be one business the wiser, and ready to deal with new challenges. There’s always another opportunity; dust yourself off and keep on going! You haven’t failed; you’ve progressed.
