The article below highlights some interesting statistics from a recent UK study on business planning within existing companies. Not surprisingly, the majority say that they don’t have the time to plan while at the same time acknowledging that planning is critical to success.

The million dollar question is this: How do you make planning a regular event? How can it be made important enough to get the attention it deserves?

We’ve had success here at Palo Alto Software with monthly planning meetings where we compare plan to actual results and adjust our plans as necessary. It does take discipline, though.

Does anyone out there have ideas on how to encourage more companies to plan on a regular basis?
